Average Points

When two rodeos are held in the same location on the same weekend, another set of points will be awarded to the top 10 in the 2-head average.  You don't have to do anything extra to be eligible for these points except to enter for both days (and get qualified scores/times.)  The rodeos in Dalhart and Canadian are the two places where average points will be awarded for this semester.

Team Ropers

This is confusing so I'll try to explain it as best I can.  You are allowed to have two runs in the Tri-State team roping (like always) but for those of you in Region 1, you will now designate (on the white envelope) which of your Tri-State runs will count for Region 1.  You will still pay fees for 3 runs, but you will only have stock charges for 2 runs.  For example, in the calf roping the contestant runs one calf so there is only one stock charge but he pays fees twice so it counts for both Tri-State and Region 1.

You cannot have more than two partners now and one of those will be both a Tri-State and Region 1 partner.  You will still list your partners on both envelopes, but the team listed on the Region 1 entry form must also be listed on the Tri-State entry form.  You will only pay stock charges on the Tri-State entry form.

For contestants who are not members of Region 1, you will enter the same way you have been entering.

If you are looking for partners, send me an e-mail or call the office so I can get you phone numbers of potential partners.

Senior Scholarships

50/50 tickets sales are the majority of the donations received by the scholarship fund.  For a senior to be eligible for consideration by the scholarship committee, they must sell a minimum of 200 50/50 tickets at one of the rodeos.  You are not limited to only 200.  The more donations received increases the possibility of more scholarships awarded next semester.  See Mikey at one of the rodeos for your tickets.

Okay, I finally have the schedule posted on the "schedule" page.  We have 9 high school rodeos, 3 junior high rodeos and 7 cuttings approved for the fall semester.  It is going to be fast and furious once we get started and it will definitely be over before you even realize it so start preparing yourselves now.

I am going to be posting information in increments throughout the next few days just to try to get things out quickly instead of waiting until I have everything typed up.  So keep checking back.  There is a lot of new things you will need to be aware of.  For now, you get the schedule and deadlines for membership and entries and I have updated the Directors page and the Clubs page.

It is good to be back in Texas!  I got back home on Sunday night and have barely had time to unpack with everything that I needed to get done the last two days.  First of all, I want to congratulate all of our members who competed at Farmington.  You all did a great job representing Texas and Region 1.  Our top winners were Brewster Guin as the #3 saddle bronc rider in the nation and Reese Riemer as the #1 calf roper.  Brewster, Reese and Ben Johnson (cutting) will all be returning for another year and a chance to return to Farmington.

Your Board of Directors met last night.  I need to get the minutes typed up so I make sure I understand everything we discussed and then I will begin posting information on here.  Membership packets will go in the mail by this weekend.  All I'll say for now is we start on September 6th so there is not a lot of time to get organized.  I'll try to have the schedule up by tomorrow morning at the latest.

Sorry to be so long in posting anything.  I spent some time in Albuquerque after my rodeo in Window Rock, AZ and just couldn't motivate myself to get my computer out and do some work.  Since leaving Albuquerque on Wednesday, I've been to Fort Lupton, CO to visit a friend from my college days and on to Cheyenne, WY to visit my parents at the "Daddy of 'Em All" before coming to Steamboat Springs, CO to work the rodeo here this weekend.  I leave for Farmington, NM in the morning to work for Jennings Photography at the high school finals all next week and then back home.

I will be updating the Region 1 News page throughout the week with scores and times for our members competing at Farmington.  Last year, there was a live audio broadcast over the internet so family and friends back home could listen to the announcers.  I know quite a few who listened in and enjoyed it so hopefully they will do it again.  I will post a link to it once it is set up.

My emotions are a rollercoaster right now.  I'm really excited for our Region 1 members competing at Farmington but I am also as sad as I think I have ever been.  Thursday morning before I arrived in Cheyenne, my dad's best roping horse died of colic.   Rhino was part of our family for over 8 years and losing him is like losing my best friend.  He had a fun personality and was so easy to get along with that my niece could ride him unattended when she was four.  He was a beautiful horse and he knew it!  He was very proud and always carried himself well - to the point that he looked like he was posing for the camera.  Please indulge me while I share some of my favorite pictures of him.

Keep an eye on the Region 1 page for updates this week.  Your Board of Directors will meet at the end of July to discuss the fall schedule and other Association business.  I should have membership information mailed out the first week of August.

Here is a link for seeing the results from the Wrangler Division National Finals in Gallup, NM.  They are listed by performance and overall standings.    Matti is currently 26th in the average on a borrowed barrel horse.  Kellie, Aaron and Brent compete again on Friday morning.
