We had a great turnout for our team roping on Friday night.  The youth roping had 128 teams and the #12 roping had 158 teams.  It was a volunteer effort to keep things running throughout the evening.  Thank you to everyone who helped out with loading and turning out the steers, keeping the books straight in the office, flagging the runs, taking the ropes off at the stripping chute and sponsoring the awards given in each roping.  I appreciate the time and hard work you all put into this fundraiser.  We made almost $1800!!  Thank you also goes to the ropers who attended our event.  There are a lot of choices of where someone can rope in the Panhandle.  Thank you for supporting our association.

Click here to see results from both ropings.

I've received some flyers this week on upcoming jackpots.  These and any information I receive on clinics will be posted at the bottom of each News page.  Information changes regularly so check back often.

I made the mail deadline today!  All of the memberships that have come in as of today have been processed and entry envelopes have been mailed out.  We currently have 83 high school members, 55 junior high members and 24 adult members.

I'm off to the team roping at Range Riders now.  Hope to see a lot of you there.  Books open at 6pm.  Rope at 7pm.

Yesterday I learned how out of practice I am for processing memberships.  My goal was to catch up on all of the memberships that had come in and get entry envelopes to the post office by the 5pm deadline.

It takes a little bit longer than I remember because I worked pretty steady most of the day with few interruptions - didn't even turn on the TV in my office.  By 4pm I knew I wasn't going to make it and resigned myself to making a trip to Amarillo to the post office that stays open late.  I was determined to get everything mailed yesterday.  I just needed to get back in time to pick up my neighbor so we could go to the Canyon high school volleyball game.

To make a long story a little bit shorter, my wonderful brother offered to take the mail to Amarillo for me so I wouldn't miss the game.  He is awesome!  Thank you Casey!

Here are some numbers for you:  we currently have 50 high school members, 25 junior high members and 8 adult members.

Just a few days left to get your membership applications in if you want to enter the Dumas rodeos.  Once I have processed your membership, I will send you the entry forms for Dumas.  Those entries do not open until next Monday and you have until a week from this Saturday to get them back to me (September 4th.)

I will get the first wave of entry envelopes in the mail tomorrow (Tuesday.)  If I have your membership application, you will get entry forms.  Some of you will have notes to send in missing items.  Please get these things back to me with your Dumas entries.

Dumas entries do not open until next Monday.  I will send you entry forms with an information letter.  Please do not download entry forms and mail them in before the rodeo entries open.

TEAM ROPING FUNDRAISER THIS FRIDAY AT RANGE RIDERS.  Everyone received a copy of this flyer in their membership packet.  I hope you can attend.  I will be there to receive membership applications and pass out entry forms for Dumas.  This could be a good opportunity to try out potential partners before you have to enter.  If you are looking for a partner, please give me a call.  I have started a list.

There will also be a Bull Riding School put on by Cody Custer at the Doc Gardner Memorial Arena in Goodwell, OK this weekend. To enroll or more information, call Craig Latham @580-349-1348 or 620-428-2288.  (I don't know any other details.  Sorry.)

Junior high members received information about a free steer riding and safety clinic in their membership packets.  This is open to Region 1 junior high members only.  It will be Monday September 6th (Labor Day) in Sayre, OK.  Call Cody Custer at 580-729-1962 for more information.  You must have returned your membership application to be eligible to attend this clinic.

I'm sure I've said this before, but keeping this website current could be a full time job.  And as luck would have it, I already have one!  So updates will continue to come in fragments but at least I have started working on it again.  Keep checking back for the latest information.

This is a fun time of the year for me.  Since we are starting a new membership year, it is like a second New Year's holiday.  I feel like I should be making some resolutions.  Actually, I have come up with a few.  We'll see if they stick.

I created a little confusion with the membership deadlines that I need to clear up.  The August 14th deadline is for anyone who is wanting to compete at the cutting events that are in Canadian August 28th and 29th.

Anyone who plans to enter the high school or junior high rodeos in Dumas will need to have their memberships returned no later than August 28th.  I will be at Range Riders on the 27th for our team roping fundraiser if you want to deliver your application in person.

You are welcome to make copies of anything that was in your packets if you know someone who is interested in joining.  Just make sure that any forms that are double-sided are copied double-sided.

I'm leaving today for my last pro rodeo of the summer in Sonora.  I haven't had three straight weeks of pro rodeos since I started working for Tri-State.  It has been fun and reminded me of the "good old days" when I worked a different rodeo every week of the summer.  But I was younger then and I am really looking forward to staying home for a while.

I hear some of you have already started school.  Sorry about that.  But you know that summer vacation can only last so long.  Make good use of your time in class so your homework doesn't take away from your practice time in the arena.

Have a good weekend,

Membership packets went in the mail this morning.  Be on the lookout for a large white envelope.  If you are planning to enter the cuttings that are August 28th and 29th, you need to have your membership back ASAP to meet the August 14th deadline.  If this poses a problem for you, please give me a call.  I can't help you if I don't know there is a problem.

August 28th is the membership deadline to be able to enter the rodeos at Dumas.  There is a flyer in your packets for a team roping fundraiser on August 27th.  I will be there to accept memberships in person and answer any questions you may have.

I've only been home about three days but I am leaving again to work the Mesquite rodeo this weekend.  I'll have a few days home next week before going to Sonora.  After that, my summer travels are complete and I will be home until we start our rodeos.  Yea!

Good luck to the JRCA Finalists this weekend!
