All of a sudden, we are at the half-way point of our fall high school rodeos. It goes by so fast - just like everything else we are involved in - so hold on to your hats!
Last week was such a busy week for me with the Amarillo pro rodeo going on. I think I broke my multi-tasker trying to keep up with all of my work. I know how worn out I was by Sunday and a lot of our members were busy showing animals at the fair in addition to preparing for our rodeos. Hopefully you will all get some rest this week before heading to Gruver. I already feel better after a good night's sleep last night.
Thank you to the Boys Ranch and Happy Clubs for hosting our high school rodeos over the weekend. I know it got a little warm at Boys Ranch and Happy looked like the Dust Bowl. But when you think about how bad it could have been, I would call it a pretty good weather weekend in the Texas Panhandle.
The Pampa 50/50 ticket was claimed by Brenda Wren. Congratulations! I did not have a drawing at Boys Ranch because there weren't enough tickets turned in to make it worthwhile so we had a combined drawing on Sunday at Happy. The winning ticket was red # 617400. If you have the matching ticket, you have until 1pm on Sunday at Gruver to claim your prize. (Sidenote: Seniors, please turn your tickets in before the afternoon ribbon roping.)
Even though I am giving my multi-tasker some time off this week, I have big plans to get caught up on a lot of work. Keep an eye on your e-mail inbox for some notes about upcoming events in October. Wheeler's Saturday rodeo is designated as a "Celebrate Freedom" rodeo and the week after Dalhart is the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Finals in Amarillo.
Checks went out in today's mail. I have the official scores and results posted. I even updated the points today, too. Please don't feel bad about questioning times/scores I post at the rodeo or in the final results. As much as I hate to admit it (especially in writing,) I do make mistakes. I don't mind double-checking something you may have a question about. I will audit point standings at the end of the fall rodeos, but go ahead and say something if you spot a mistake before then.
On that note, please be sure to check the Gruver callbacks tomorrow night to make sure I have you entered correctly.

I just learned that Regon 1 has two finalists in the NRS Model Search that was held during the THSRA State Finals in Abilene last June - Kaden Bolton & Will Gaillard.
Check out the album on the NRSworld Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/nrsworld to see the top 10 models and vote your favorite. Voting takes place from Monday September 26th through Monday October 3rd. The picture with the most likes after 1 week (ends Monday October 3rd) will win and have the opportunity to be in the Spring 2012 catalog. Good Luck!

We are two weeks into our fall season and everything is going so well. Thank you to the Pampa Rodeo Club for hosting two days of high school rodeos for us and for also bringing back the old Saturday night rodeo dance. I hear a good time was had by all in attendance. I wish I could have been there, but I am looking forward to seeing photos.
On that note, I would like to thank the Harris, Graf and Winders families for coming to my rescue when my truck broke down. I was so quickly surrounded by good samaritans that I never had the time to get upset over what was happening. I am happy to say the truck is running again but it has a less than desirable diesel smell that I am told will take quite a while to go away. I will suffer through it and be thankful that I have a vehicle to get me all the places I need to go.
The Amarillo pro rodeo is this week so I am trying to stay as focused as possible to keep up with both jobs. Checks for Pampa were mailed last night on my way to the mutton bustin slack. We have a qualifying round to narrow down the field of contestants that compete during the performances later this week. It was pretty entertaining.
The checks are confusing to understand because the rodeo program we use combines 1st and 2nd go payoffs into a single check. Don't pay attention to the placing. It only looks at first go round. I have the official scores and results posted on our website now. The state website doesn't recognize the 2nd go and average so that adds to the confusion. I apologize. If you have any questions, please give me a call and I will do my best to explain what your checks are paying you. Your entry fees will be deposited today.
I will start my points standing charts later this week. We have slack in Amarillo on Wednesday and Thursday so I will be limited on time. I may not get the charts on the website this week but they will be posted at the rodeos this weekend.
Callbacks for Boys Ranch and Happy will be posted today but I may not get them up by 5pm. I appreciate your patience. They will be up tonight but it may be late. I'll send an e-mail to let you know when they are ready.
The Dumas 50/50 ticket and Pampa's Saturday 50/50 ticket were claimed. The winning ticket for Sunday's Pampa drawing is a white ticket #768068. If you have the matching ticket, you have until 1pm at Boys Ranch this Saturday to claim your winnings. Thanks to everyone who plays and supports our seniors.

What a great weekend in Dumas to start off our fall rodeo season! It was really nice catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. There was a lot of great action in the arena with several of the new members mixed in with veterans on the results page. For complete results from both days, visit our Results page. You will find official scores and results for each rodeo as they become ready. This will also be where you can keep up with point standings throughout the year.
The earlier start time for the high school rodeo allowed me to get home at a decent hour (how nice!) and get the results figured and checks printed last night. That means payoff checks were mailed today! Entry fees will be deposited on Tuesday.
Please read the information that was in the packets you picked up at Dumas. If it wasn't important, I wouldn't spend several days organizing all of the papers and raffle tickets and stuffing them in the envelopes. I have more paper cuts and hang nails than I think I have in my entire life. Being a rodeo secretary is not as easy as it looks!
We had our first 50/50 drawing of the year on Sunday. It has yet to be claimed. So if you have a red ticket #325834, you have until the start of the PM performance on Saturday in Pampa to claim your share of the prize. Any unclaimed jackpots are rolled into the next drawing. Thank you to everyone who plays. Proceeds go to our Tri-State Memorial Scholarship Fund, so even if you never win (like me,) your donation is going to a good cause.
Be sure to check out your photos from Rodeo Mom Pix. There is a link to their website in the left margin.

The Dumas Club's team roping will be Saturday night following the junior high rodeo - don't forget the photo shoot, also. The roping will be 2 and a short for $40 (cash only) - progressive after 1. You can enter up to 5 times. It is open to anyone but the team must consist of at least one partner that is a junior high or high school member.
For new members this year, this is a good opportunity to meet other ropers and maybe find a future partner. We hope to see you there!
Since we don't know how long the junior high rodeo will last, it is hard to announce a specific start time for the team roping. So, we will just say it will not start before 6pm.

Just wanted to let you all know that Alan Hennigh had triple-bypass surgery this morning. This has become a routine surgery for doctors but it is far from routine for the paitent's loved ones. I'm very confident that all will go well but we won't get to see Alan at our fall rodeos - unless he just comes for a visit. I know you will pray for a speedy recovery for Alan but please include his wife, Cathy, in your prayers also. She will be the one having to put up with him while he is stuck at home recuperating. That will be tough! Get well soon, Alan! We love you!
Amarillo Club members: don't forget about your meeting tonight at 6:30pm at the Mr. Gatti's in Amarillo.
Happy Club members: you will have a meeting this Thursday (Sept 8th) at 6pm in the Happy school cafeteria (next to the library.) Members and their parents are encouraged to attend to plan for your upcoming rodeo on the 25th.
I will send an e-mail when callbacks are ready tonight. Until then, they are not ready. Please don't call asking about them because you only slow down the process.

I sent out a test e-mail last night to make sure I had everyone's addresses entered correctly. There were quite a few that were kicked back, partly because I can't read some of the handwriting on the applications. I will try again to decipher but if you did not receive an e-mail, please confirm your address with me. E-mails and this website are the main sources for information during the year.
I will send an e-mail out tomorrow to let you know when callbacks are ready to view. Each week I will send reminders and notes about the upcoming rodeos.
I have several members looking for team roping and ribbon roping partners. I will put together a list of names and numbers and send out e-mails to the members on the list so you can make calls. If you get paired, PLEASE let me know.
The Dumas Club will be hosting a team roping on Saturday night following the junior high rodeo. I will let you know when the details are finalized.
Note to new high school members: The entry deadline for the Pampa rodeos is the weekend. You will be able to enter while you are at Dumas. It is not necessary to mail in your entries for these rodeos.

We are one day away from the entry deadline for our first rodeos of the 2011-2012 season. If you haven't mailed yours in yet, I recommend getting it in the mail today. I'll accept late entries until 2pm on Tuesday, but remember there is no mail on Monday. You are welcome to drive to Canyon and deliver your entries in person if that is what you need to do to get entered on time. I will be taking in some volleyball action at WT today and tomorrow but there is a drop box right outside my office door for your entries.
Hope you all have a fun Labor Day weekend!
