ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO
KNOW?
GRADES
The date change
this year has made it hard for me to figure out what to do about
report cards. They have always been your ticket to get into
check-in. I’ll try to keep it as simple as possible. Everyone on a
six-week grading system needs to bring their 5th six
weeks report card with them. I will have the ones that have been
mailed to the office and will try to post a list early next week so
you will know if I have yours or not. Everyone on a nine-week
grading system will need to bring a progress report with them.
GRAND ENTRY
Each
contestant with a horse is required to participate in the grand
entry. Clubs are asked to bring their flags to be carried in
front of their members. Candidates for Miss Tri-State will be
introduced following the grand entry.
HOW DO POINTS
WORK?
The points you have earned all year come with you
to the Finals. You have the potential for 40 more points at
Vernon: 1st Go, 2nd Go, 3rd Go and the Average. Year end
champions are determined from the total points earned throughout the
year and the Finals.
BACK NUMBERS
Each contestant
will receive a new back number at check-in. It must be worn at all
times – even when you are in town. It lets the local businesses
know who you are and why you are in town. If they see a Tri-State
High School Rodeo Association member supporting their business, they
are more likely to support Tri-State High School Rodeo Association
the next time we come to town.
DRESS CODE
Full dress code is required at all
times that you are inside the building, whether you are competing or
not.
Even when full dress code is not
required, you still must have your back number on your back.
When you eat or shop in town, make
sure the salesperson sees you are wearing your back number. Businesses
may offer discounts to the contestants.
PROPER PAPERS
FOR YOUR HORSES
If you are taking horses to Vernon,
you must have current coggins for each one.
If you are bringing horses from
outside of Texas, you are also required to have health papers for each
horse. This only applies to horses crossing state lines.
So, to reiterate: everyone
needs coggins papers. Only New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma
residents need health papers.
SILENT
AUCTION
Contestants are
asked to bring an item to donate to the auction with them to
check-in on Friday. A picture will be taken of each item to be used
for display. Tables will be set up in the covered building so
bidding can take place during the rodeo performances. A photo and
description of each item will be used in place of the actual items
so we don’t have to worry with getting everything locked up each
night. Sally Wright and Patricia Heinrich will be organizing the
auction this year. Auction items will be distributed to the winners
before the Awards Banquet on Sunday.
EVENT
DIRECTORS
Each adult event
director is asked to help with their specific event. I have also
assigned clubs to help with specific events. If everyone helps out
a little bit, then it does not become a burden
to any individuals. Just remember that proper dress
code is required while in the arena.
Steer Wrestling – Dumas & Vernon
Goat Tying – Canadian
Breakaway Roping – Boys Ranch
Ribbon Roping – Canyon
Bareback & Saddle Bronc Riding – Dalhart Pole

2010-2011 STUDENT OFFICER AND EVENT DIRECTOR BALLOTS
These will be in
your packet, as well. You will be voting for next year’s student
officers and event directors. If a ballot is in your packet, you
are eligible to vote in that category. This includes all seniors.
The ballot box will be out during check-in only. Please vote.
YARD BIRD BINGO TICKETS
Every finalist
is required to sell 5 Yard Bird Bingo tickets for each game – a
total of 10. These are due when you come to check-in. There are
still some extra tickets that will need to be sold. Let me know if
you can help with this. Unsold tickets take away from the overall
profit.
