ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

GRADES

Everyone on a six-week grading system needs to bring their 5th six weeks report card with them.  Everyone on a nine-week grading system will need to bring a progress report with them.

GRAND ENTRY

Each contestant with a horse is required to participate in the grand entry.  Clubs are asked to bring their flags to be carried in front of their members.  Candidates for Miss Tri-State will be introduced following the grand entry.

HOW DO POINTS WORK?

The points you have earned all year come with you to the Finals.  You have the potential for 40 more points at Vernon:  1st Go, 2nd Go, 3rd Go and the Average.  Year end champions are determined from the total points earned throughout the year and the Finals.

BACK NUMBERS

Each contestant will receive a new back number at check-in.  It must be worn at all times – even when you are in town.  It lets the local businesses know who you are and why you are in town.  If they see a Tri-State High School Rodeo Association member supporting their business, they are more likely to support Tri-State High School Rodeo Association the next time we come to town.

DRESS CODE

Full dress code is required at all times that you are inside the building, whether you are competing or not.

Even when full dress code is not required, you still must have your back number on your back.

When you eat or shop in town, make sure the salesperson sees you are wearing your back number.  Businesses may offer discounts to the contestants.

PROPER PAPERS FOR YOUR HORSES

If you are taking horses to Vernon, you must have current coggins for each one.

If you are bringing horses from outside of Texas, you are also required to have health papers for each horse.  This only applies to horses crossing state lines.

So, to reiterate:  everyone needs coggins papers.  Only New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma residents need health papers.

EVENT DIRECTORS

Each adult event director is asked to help with their specific event.  I have also assigned clubs to help with specific events.  If everyone helps out a little bit, then it does not become a burden to any individuals.  Just remember that proper dress code is required while in the arena.

Bareback – Dumas Club

Steer Wrestling – Vernon Club

Breakaway Roping – Boys Ranch Club

Saddle Bronc Riding – Dalhart Club

Barrel Racing – Lubbock Club

Calf Roping – Hereford Club

Goat Tying – Canadian Club

2011-2012 STUDENT OFFICER AND EVENT DIRECTOR BALLOTS

These will be in your packet, as well.  You will be voting for next year’s student officers and event directors.  If a ballot is in your packet, you are eligible to vote in that category.  This includes all seniors.  The ballot box will be out during check-in only.  Please vote.

FINALS FUNDRAISERS

The Best Family has donated a registered 1 year old sorrel mare to be sold by live auction on Sunday May 8th.  The mare will be delivered to Vernon the weekend of our Finals so the new owner can take possession immediately following the third performance.  A copy of the registration papers will be displayed at the remaining rodeos.

A new fundraising idea will be tested during the third performance (3rd go round) of the Finals – The Tri-State Dream Team.  A detailed information sheet was included in the finals packet.  This is replacing our silent auction and has the potential to be just as successful.  Please give it a try.  Here is the updated list of teams.

Proceeds from the live auction and The Tri-State Dream Team will benefit Tri-State High School Rodeo Association members.
