I had several error messages from the e-mail I sent out last night.  I guess my address is still new enough that spam filters are catching it.  I will try to do a better job of posting copies of the mass e-mails on here.  See below for the one sent last night.  It was sent to all high school and junior high members and parents that I have addresses for in my contacts list.

If you are not receiving e-mails from me, check your spam box and make sure the new address is saved in your contacts list.  I have learned to start checking my spam box lately because not all of yours are making it to my inbox, either.  I appreciate your patience with the transition.  Hopefully the bumps will smooth out soon.  I am going to try to help my mom with her e-mail "migration" today.  She hasn't lost anything yet but it still isn't working right.  Please pray that she has a better experience than I had!

Callbacks for Hereford are ready for your review.  Please check for partners and any missing * denoting Region 1 entries.

Goats for the high school and junior high rodeos will be tied Saturday morning at 8:30am.  The junior high goats may be tied again at 8am Sunday, if needed.

Calves will be fresh.  If I hear of a tying session, I will let you know.

Stalls are $10 a night (one horse per stall.)  There are also RV hook-ups now.  Those are $25 a night.  Please call Kathleen Collier at 806-344-6513 for reservations.  Stalls will need to be cleaned before you leave.

I brought home more coats from Amarillo than I have in my closet.  They will be on display this weekend.  If one of them is yours, PLEASE take it home with you.  I will not haul them to Canadian.

Speaking of Canadian, stalls there are limited.  Please call Dave Johnson for reservations at 806-334-1371.  They will rent for $15 a night.

To end on a good note tonight, Logan Dee Harkey is out of surgery and already back home in Vernon.  Please keep the prayers coming for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to keep the Wrangler Division members waiting all day for the results but they are now posted.  It was a typical Monday.  We'll see if the post office has a grace period for being late.  I dropped off all of this weekend's checks at 5:05pm.  Hopefully they went out today.  Your entry fees will go in under tomorrow's business.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Wrangler Division rodeos yesterday.  Having membership rodeos probably weren't the best way to start back after several months off but we got through the day.  I appreciate that someone stepped in when announcements were made for additional help in certain areas.  Your state directors, adult and student event directors, parents and volunteers made these rodeos happen.  Even some of the high school members who were pretty adamant on Saturday that we would not see them on Sunday showed up and eventually got in proper dress code so they could go in the arena.  (They just couldn't stand not being near the action.)  I also remember seeing some pretty small helpers on the untie crew.  Thank you also to those who work in the areas that no one sees.  We couldn't get it done without you.

Next weekend will be better.  The Hereford Club is hosting both the high school and junior high rodeos.  We still need the event directors to do their part, but the overall running of the rodeo will be taken care of by the hosting club.  Please show your appreciation.  It will be much easier - and enjoyable - than yesterday.

Please keep Logan Dee Harkey and his parents, Gary Don and Betsy, in your prayers.  Logan Dee broke his leg in an accident Saturday night and is scheduled for surgery early Tuesday morning.  I'll try to post an update tomorrow night and let you know how the surgery goes.

P.S.  Congrats to Ryan Bingham on his Academy Award for best original song.

Check out what having a rodeo close to home means:  today's results are already posted.  Thank you to the Canyon Club for providing a nice for a spring rodeo - even if we did have pretty good weather today.  If any of you didn't get your fill of rodeo committee labor today, you are welcome to come back out tomorrow for the Wrangler Division rodeos.  We start at 9am.  We would love to see your smiling face.

The 50/50 ticket did not get claimed this afternoon.  Follow the link to the right to see if you are holding the winning ticket.  If the prize is not claimed by the start of the PM performance at Hereford next Saturday, the entire jackpot will be added to the Hereford drawing.

Don't expect tomorrow's results to be up quite as early as today's.  The Academy Awards are on TV tomorrow night and I have to watch to see if an old friend of mine wins for best song.  That kind of show is so much more fun to watch when you actually know someone that is on it.  Cross your fingers for Ryan Bingham and "The Weary Kind."  It is the theme song for "Crazy Heart."  He already won the Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice Awards.  I think he is the odds on favorite for the Oscar.  But I might be showing a little favoritism.

Sunday is going to be a great day of junior high rodeos topped off with a great awards show.  I can't wait!

What a great weekend in Vernon.  For a club with only 3 members, they set the bar pretty high by hosting double rodeos every year.  They certainly put in the hours and hard work because everything runs like clockwork.  Thank you Vernon Club!

When I woke up this morning, I was on track to get checks out in today's mail, deposits made and possibly even point standings updated.  (I'm sure you can see where this is going.)  Long story short, I spent several hours this morning on and off the phone trying to get my rodeo program fixed.  This was a much better experience than last week, though.  I've actually met the man on the other end of the phone.  All of the regions get 24/7 technical support and he is absolutely brilliant.  I had gotten all of the new updates several weeks ago but until I tried to figure results for our first rodeo, I didn't know there were glitches.  Brian figured out what the problem was and we worked through the Saturday rodeo until it was figuring the correct payoff.  I just couldn't print any checks until mid-afternoon.

So, checks will be mailed and fees deposited tomorrow.  Points will have to wait another day so I can get this weekend's rodeos started.  Results have been posted - even the average results that usually take me a few extra days to get to.

Get ready because I am going to be bombarding you this week with e-mails.  Our spring schedule is compact and very fast but there is a lot going on that we need to stay on top of.  Please be sure to check your e-mails each day for new information or come back here to look for updates.

And if you aren't receiving e-mails from the new address I created last Thursday, please check your spam folder or update your e-mail address contact list.  The new address is tri-statehsrodeo@att.netDo not send anything to the old address.  I can no longer access it.

I hope you enjoy the sunshine we are expecting this week.

posted 2.25.10

I created a new e-mail account tonight and sent two e-mails to the high school members and parents.  There is no guarantee that I got everyone's address imported to the new account.  I am learning the new features as I go.  Please check your e-mail box and update the Tri-State e-mail to:

tri-statehsrodeo@att.net

You can delete the old address.  I think it is gone forever.

I will continue working on the e-mail addresses to make sure I have everyone back in my address book.  I will try to send a test e-mail to the Wrangler members in a few days.

posted 2.25.10

I still do not have e-mail access this morning but I am using a different phone to wait on hold so the office line is available.

As of this morning, the Vernon rodeos are still on go for this weekend.  It is your choice to attend.  The deadline to draw out is 10am this morning.  You only lose your office charges.  After 10am, your fees are included in the payoff unless you have a doctor release or vet release (only in barrels and poles.)

If you know you are not going to travel this weekend and want to draw out, you MUST call the office by 10am.  Remember, I cannot access my e-mail.  If you do not speak to me directly, you are not drawn out.

I will post the updated entries on the callbacks page shortly.  That link is to the left under Announcements.

posted 2.24.10

I am having some e-issues today that prevent me from accessing my e-mail.  This issue also caused me to be on the phone the entire morning - with no results.  So not only can you not reach me by e-mail, but you probably got a busy signal if you tried to call the office.

I will try not to tie up the phone line again until later tonight.  Keep your fingers crossed that I can get this fixed quickly and for the sake of the service technicians, pray that I don't run out of brownies.

Spring rotations are finally ready.  Follow this link to the Schedule page to see when you will compete this weekend.

I know some of you are concerned about the weather forecast for this weekend.  IF - and that is a big IF - anything changes regarding the rodeos in Vernon, that decision will not be made until Thursday night.

Here are the team roping pairings as of today's mail run.  If you are looking for an additional partner, please give me a call.

TEAM ROPING

posted 2.18.10

The ineligible chart is finally starting to shrink!  Yea!  Just a few days left to get your Vernon entries in on time.  I will get the team roping pairs posted starting tomorrow so you can see if anyone has an available run left.

I've been battling a sinus infection all week.  This is not the time of year to be getting sick with everything about to start up again.  I hope all of you have been taking care of yourselves.  Everyone seems to go non-stop in the spring time because there is so much going on and it feels so good to get outside again.  Try to get as much rest as you can.  It will rejuvenate your body and help you keep going.  I am a big fan of sleep.  If it comes down to a choice, I will take sleep over food 90% of the time.

I plan to work on the finals information pages this weekend.  Right now, all of the information is from last year.  A lot of it will remain the same if you want an idea of what to expect before I get everything updated.

posted 2.8.10

The ineligible chart has been updated to include missing semester grades.  Today is the last day to receive artwork for program ads.  I will be starting on the Tri-State Finals and Wrangler Region 1 Finals programs next week.  Any ads missing artwork will be considered donations.

I am leaving tomorrow for the rest of the week for a pro rodeo in Belton.  I hear the sun won't be shining there either.  This weather should make us all appreciate the arrival of spring a little more than usual.  Hopefully the weather will be nice to us and we will avoid any hassles on rodeo weekends.

Entries for Vernon open next Monday.  If you at least wait until Saturday to mail them in, then I won't come home to a big stack of early entries.  Mailing them in early doesn't help you get your rotation request any more than mailing them in on time.  It just makes my post office work harder to keep up with my mail while I am gone.

I will have the office phone forwarded but my cell phone doesn't always work when I am inside the coliseum.  Make sure you provide a phone number for me if you leave a message.

Good luck getting your horses legged up.  Try to stay warm and dry!

** Cuttings Cancelled **

The two approved cutting events scheduled this weekend through Palo Duro Cutting Horse Association have been cancelled.  ONE of them will be rescheduled for March 6th.  This is also the day of the Canyon Club's rodeo at the Arena of Life in Amarillo.

I was happy to see a few new names on the judges sheets from the January events.  I hope we continue to get more members interested in the cutting.

The remaining approved cuttings for this year will be:

Saturday March 6th

Sunday March 7th

Both of these will be held at the EE Arena in Amarillo and are hosted by Palo Duro Cutting Horse Association.

I will be mailing entry envelopes tomorrow so be looking for them later this week.  If you don't receive any, it is because you are on the ineligible list and have not made any attempts to meet your fundraising requirements.  It is your responsibility to take care of your own business.  Call me if you want to know where you stand.  There is still time to get off the ineligible list.  We would love to see you at the spring rodeos.

I will be updating the finals information for Tri-State, Region 1 and Wrangler Division in the coming weeks.  Packets will be passed out at the Hereford rodeos.  But you can get a sneak peek of what to expect by checking the individual finals pages.  Region 1 and Wrangler Division money for entry fees, stalls, parking and tickets will be deposited in April when you turn in your entry forms.  This is a lot of money coming out of your bank account at the same time as your fees for the last rodeos.  The information from last year's finals is still posted.  I don't expect many changes in fees so I encourage you to start planning your budget now to avoid financial hardships in April.

I think our board meeting went very well on Saturday.  I hope we are not starting a trend of 6+ hour meetings, though.  They wear me out - but in a good way.  I leave feeling so positive about our association.  We've got some great directors who understand the importance of the decisions they are making and the impact they will have on the membership.  Our meetings may run longer than we would prefer, but there is good discussion among the Board members and it benefits all of you in the long run.

If you don't know your Board of Directors yet, I hope you will make it a point to meet them this semester.  They take time away from their families and jobs to keep this association growing in the right direction.  A simple "hello" and "thank you" can go a long way to acknowledging their hard work.  Believe me, they deserve so much more.

In an effort to expand the responsibilities of your high school and junior high student officers, they were invited to the Board meeting to share their opinions and help make decisions on the Finals.  We were slow in getting to this level of involvement, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.  I think only good things can come from asking our student leaders to actually  be leaders.  Our future looks bright.

So like I mentioned above, we had a 6 1/2 hour meeting and that is a lot of notes I need to sort through so I can type the minutes and start getting the information out to all of you.

I know you are all excited to get back to the rodeos.  I am, too.  I will mail entry forms by early next week.   I still need semester report cards from quite a few members.  I know some of you are just getting yours.  Don't forget to send me a copy.  I will try to send e-mails to the members who are ineligible to encourage you to get your fundraising items in before the late fines increase again.

posted 1.13.10

I've been trying to get back into "full-time" mode this week but it just isn't happening yet.  I had a great time in Waco.  The Circuit Finals is not a typical rodeo so it had some new challenges for me but once I got over a few hurdles it was smooth sailing and lots of fun.

Oh, and it was cold there too.  I thought it was supposed to get warmer when you head south but that was not the case last week.  I even heard of some region rodeos that were cancelled.  I don't know if they had inclement weather or if it was just cold.  I'm hoping there was more to it than just cold weather 'cause all I could think of was Gruver in October and how tough Region 1 members are!

Semester report cards are starting to trickle in.  That's a good sign.  These are forwarded on to the state offices just like your fundraising items so don't let a simple report card keep you from being eligible to compete this spring.

The fundraising charts have been updated.  There are still quite a few members who are missing items.  If you haven't sold your ads, there is still time to get them in.  You have to turn in the money (and late fines) anyway so you might as well get advertising for it.  If you have turned in ad money with no artwork, there is still time to get that to me.  Don't let your money go to waste.  And for those of you who turn in money without your raffle tickets, don't forget to get those ticket stubs to me so they will be included in the drawings.  Please give me a call if you have questions about any of the fundraising requirements.

Your Board of Directors and Student Officers are meeting this weekend to work on some details for our Finals.  They'll be selecting the companies who will make your saddle and buckle awards, selecting the stock contractors and personnel and finalizing the schedule of events.

I'm also expecting the information for state finals packets in the new few weeks.  I'll start updating the Finals pages for each association as this information comes in.

Keep an eye on the school and jackpot listings on each news page.  There are several good ones this semester and I'm sure I'll be adding more soon.

Congratulations to Barrett Bland and Teryn Tate for being selected as Captains of the Region 1 Wrangler All Star team for the Wrangler Division.

I'm taking off again for the rest of the week.  The Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo is in Waco and this is the first time I will be the secretary.  I'm pretty excited.

I will forward the office phone to catch as many calls as I can while I am gone.  You can also e-mail me if you need anything.

Have a good week.

I think I'm going to like 2010.  So far I haven't messed up writing the correct year on anything.  LOL.  Hope all of you are off to a good start on the new year.

I have a checklist for the year that is broken down by months that helps me (try to) keep up with things.  As I was looking at it today, it hit me just how much goes on in the spring and how fast the time will go by.  In the next few weeks I will be getting information for the state finals.  Can you believe it is already time to be talking about the state finals?  Every year they seem to sneak up on me.  One day I'm relaxing and enjoying the end of 2009 and the next day I wake up to 2010 and the finals are just a few months away!

Thanks to your Directors, everything always falls into place  and gets done and when the finals are over, I look back and wonder why I was so stressed out.  I'll try to make this the year I don't get too stressed.  (Yeah, right!  I already know that won't happen.)

I've updated all of the fundraising charts and the ineligible chart.  There are quite a few of you who are missing items and EVERYONE needs to send in a semester report card when you get it.  Before you can compete in the spring semester, you have to be current on all fundraising requirements and have turned in your semester report card.  If late fines don't phase you and you need some more motivation to get in gear, think about this:  the entries for the Vernon rodeo open on February 15th.  That is in six weeks.

Now that I've got you thinking about entries, here are few notes on that topic:

  • I will send you envelopes to get you started for the first weekend of rodeos.

  • You can pick up additional envelopes at the first rodeo.

  • Rotations start over for everyone.

  • Entries for Vernon open February 15th.  DO NOT print forms off the website and mail them in February 1st thinking that will help you get your rotation request.  It is not a "first come, first serve" situation.  Seniority and where you live are not factors either.

I will send more information when I mail the entry envelopes later this month.  For now, I need to get back to work.  Three days into the new year and it already feels like time is flying by.

posted 12.26.09

Not that I've been working all that hard lately, but I'm leaving tomorrow for a little vacation before the new year arrives.  When I get back, I will update the ineligible lists to show everyone who is missing fundraising items - AND owes late fines.  So you have a few days left in the grace period to get your ads and tickets turned in.  Please take advantage of it.  I hate imposing those late fines just as much as you hate paying them.

I heard today that Keri Beth Cleavinger's and Jim Riemer's surgeries went well this week.  Good news!

The fundraising charts have been updated through today's mail.  Please look them over to make sure your money has been posted correctly.  If you have not turned in artwork for an ad, please do so ASAP.

Have a good weekend.

I hope everyone is doing okay.  For those of you who haven't turned in all of your fundraising requirements, you still need to get those in to me.  You cannot compete at the spring rodeos until all of your fundraising requirements have been met and you are current on your report cards.

Now, to lighten the mood a little.  Here is a joke my brother told a few weeks ago that still makes me chuckle:

Q.  When you see a flock of birds flying in a V formation, why is one side of the V longer than the other side?

A.  There are more birds on that side.

It's not a great joke and I didn't laugh at first (because I was annoyed with him at the time) but after thinking about it for a few minutes I couldn't hold back the laughter.  So now, every time I see birds flying in formation, I smile and laugh a little and think fondly of my brother and forget about how mad he makes me sometimes.

I need more prayers.

Keri Beth Cleavinger, Colt's mom, is having surgery today in Houston to remove a tumor.  She is expected back home this week.

Also, Jim Riemer, Reese's dad and a Tri-State Director for many years, was diagnosed with cancer in his lower jaw and will have surgery tomorrow to remove the jaw bone and replace it with bone from his leg.  He will be required to stay in the hospital for a few weeks.

Please pray for these families and the families who lost loved ones last Friday.

posted 12.11.09

Some of our members are going through some hard times today.  Jerri Von Thomas, Plainview Club sponsor, lost her father to cancer this morning (Pecos' grandfather.)  I also just learned that Desiray Robinett of Sunray (Dumas Club) lost her father in a small plane crash.  Losing a loved one is never easy and during the Christmas season it is so much harder.  Please keep these families in your prayers.

The fundraising charts are finally updated to show everything I received through Monday.  If you have turned in everything but your name is not showing up on all of the charts, call me and we will go through my notes to figure it out together.

There are a lot of missing names in those charts - including the second six weeks report cards.  I know it is harder to meet deadlines when you don't have the incentive of competing at the next rodeo, but you still have to get everything to me on time. Those late fines add up pretty quickly.  Remember, they are PER ITEM.  Please don't call me with excuses unless you are very creative.  After six years, I've heard them all.  Just get your items turned in.  PLEASE!!

I try to test out new links on the website when I post them, but sometimes I mess up old ones and don't realize it. This website is for your information and convenience.   If you come across a link that isn't working, please let me know so I can fix it.

I am back in reality.  No more bright lights of Las Vegas for another year.  Instead, I get to watch the dust bowl re-created outside my door.  Home. Sweet. Home.  LOL.

I have a lot of mail to sort through but I hope to have all of the fundraising charts updated by tomorrow night.  Be sure you check these to make sure you are listed.  If you are NOT listed, that means I haven't received your ads or tickets.

I have posted a new rodeo school for bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding hosted by the PRCA.  It is limited to 50 students.  I called the PRCA today to confirm that there are still positions open before I posted the information, but of course, everyone is in Las Vegas this week.  So hopefully you can still get in if you are interested.
